Hydrostatic pressure problems in pavement.

This is how hydro-static pressure causes problems in parking lots. Below, you will notice water seeping from cracks from this asphalt parking lot. This is caused usually from underground water sources. Sometimes these cracks will see water for days or weeks on end. There are even cracks that never stopped leaking water when a severe hydro-static pressure problem exists.
Hydro-static pressure can cause extended damage to asphalt pavement. To rectify the situation French drains must be installed and routed to either storm drains or daylight to ground that is lower in order to relieve the pressure underneath the pavement.

Best tips for taking care of your new                                                                                                                                      asphalt driveway

Get the most life out of your new asphalt driveway by following some basic tips and precautions.
  •  Do not drive on your asphalt driveway for 24 hours. 
  • For the first year, be sure to always keep your vehicle moving while turning.  Avoid sitting still
    and turning your steering wheel.  This can grind the surface if repeated.  This is especially
    important in temperatures above 80 degrees. 
  • If you have Zoysia or Chickweed grass, be sure to keep it away from your driveway’s edges. 
    These types of grass have roots that spread out horizontally and can “burrow” into your
    pavement; causing holes in the asphalt.  Keep it edged with a line trimmer or herbicide.
  • If your edges have more than an inch exposed, it is a good idea to “back-fill” those edges with
    soil or crushed aggregate to support the edge and deter erosion beneath the asphalt pavement.
  • Be sure not to drive your vehicle off your driveway’s exposed edges if they are not back-filled. 
    Also avoid parking vehicles for extended amounts of time within 6 inches of an edge.  Sinking
    may occur. 
  • If a vehicle or heavy object is to be placed on your driveway for an extended amount of time,
    periodically move it around or place a piece of plywood under the object to disperse loads that
    cause sinking.
  • Avoid spilling fuels or oils on your driveway.  They will soak into the pavement and cause the
    asphalt cement to lose adhesion.
  • Any cracks that may develop should be filled prior to winter time.  Cracks that develop within 1
    year of installation are generally symptoms of expansive soils (example: clay).  During a drought
    clay shrinks due to loss of moisture.  When that happens it causes cracks or shifting that
    transmits through the rock base of your driveway; eventually causing a shift or crack in the
    asphalt surface.
  • If you decide to seal-coat your driveway, the best time to do it is at least 90 days after its installation. 
    Seal-coating applied prematurely can lock in oils and solvents causing your surface to stay soft
    and impressionable.  Asphalt driveways should be sealed within the first year of their installation
    to prevent too much oxidation from the sun's UV rays.  
  • Some driveways will need to have seal-coating applied in cooler temperatures.  Driveway sealer
    takes 21 days for a full cure and is susceptible to scuffing while it’s curing, especially in
    temperatures hotter than 80 degrees.  Driveways with tight turn around areas such as rear or side
    entry should be sealed in cooler temperatures.  The aggressive nature of maneuvering a car in
    and out of a rear entry garage during hot temperatures will cause uncured sealer to scuff and
    possibly track.  You can prevent scuffing of your driveway if you keep your vehicle moving
    while turning the steering wheel.

Creve Coeur Paving Paves the way for New                                                                                                         Route 66 Museum in Litchfield Illinois

The owner of Creve Coeur Paving, Richard Dinkela II is a huge fan and explorer of all things Route 66.  So when he heard citizens from Litchfield, IL had plans for creating a new museum on the site of the old Vic Suhling Station on Old Route 66 he volunteered and donated the required labor and Equipment to get the parking lot paved.  He hopes that the cost savings will provide funding for items to be displayed in the museum.

Consumers often times confused less-expensive pricing with higher value.  Rarely is this ever the case when it comes to selecting an asphalt paving contractor. You may think you are saving lots of money, but in reality you are probably just wasting lots of money.

Repairing damaged asphalt caused by                                                                                                           collapsed sewer main

Extensive damage was caused to this Chesterfield residents driveway.
We removed the damaged asphalt and debris. Next we leveled the aggregate as best as possible and installed a leveling course of soil adjacent to the pavement repair.We installed 4 corrective courses of pavement and compacted each course with a vibratory plate compactor. Installing multiple courses or layers of asphalt will ensure the strongest repair possible.The final surface is installed and rolled with a vibratory roller. Dealpoint Merrill, an investment firm is revitalizing on old St. Charles Missouri commercial property.  Long time residents know the property as the old K-Mart or currently known as Chuck E. Cheese.  Chuck E. Cheese remains as a tenant in a portion of the building while the old K-Mart is being turned into an indoor storage center. CubeSmart will open this summer to provide area residents an alternative to indoor storage.  
Dealpoint Merrill hired the St. Louis area paving firm to pave the entire property while also installing green space islands.  Originally the islands were to be constructed of slip form concrete curb and gutter.  In order to save money and time Creve Coeur Paving recommended installing asphalt curbed islands in lieu of the concrete islands.  Asphalt curbs could be installed after the parking lot was paved. - That would help get parking lot resurfacing completed faster because the paver wouldn't have to navigate around islands while installing the new asphalt surface.  Asphalt curbing is also easier and quicker to install than concrete curb and gutter.
Dick Mason, the director of construction for Dealpoint Merrill told Richard Dinkela, the operations manager for Creve Coeur Paving that going with asphalt saved Dealpoint thousands of dollars.  It's also getting the paving work completed faster making it possible for CubeSmart to open quicker.

Top 10 ways to spot traveling asphalt crews:                                                                                                          AKA Gypsies, or Fly by Night Contractors

Traveling pavers roam the country trying to pull “bait and switch” tactics on property owners. Their classic line goes something like this, “We are paving a job a few blocks away and we have just enough extra material left to pave your driveway.” Never fall for this. Reputable contractors rarely try to beat doors for business. Gypsies never do what they say they will, and they will never come back and fix a shoddy job. There are a couple things you can do if approached by a suspected gypsy outfit:
  1. Contact your local BBB to check their status as a known business.
  2. Ask to see the person’s driver license.
  3. Check to see if they have a website.  Investigate their website to see if there are any local references.
  4. Simply look in your area Yellow Pages to see if the company has a listing.
  5. Be very assertive with him by asking, “If you are such a good paving company, then why do you have so much material left over?” Conclude with, “An experienced contractor shouldn’t be over so much on material.”
  6. Analyze the name on the trucks. Gypsies typically use names with terms such as: Statewide, Nationwide, Town and Country, Countryside, and Citywide. They do this to blend into large regions.
  7. They will always want cash, or a check written to their personal name.
  8. Look at the license plates on the trucks. They will usually be out of state.
  9. Do they have a local phone number as a primary contact instead of an (800) number or foreign area code?
  10. Always demand to have all agreements made in writing and in contract form.
